Using Huawei Storage
A Huawei storage array integrates with MetalSoft as a Storage object supporting three types of storage:
- Drive – block storage (LUN) attached to servers.
- File Share – NFS share mounted by servers.
- Bucket – S3-like object storage endpoint used by applications.
Setup steps
Section titled “Setup steps”1. Add the storage in MetalSoft
Section titled “1. Add the storage in MetalSoft”Open the Storage page for your site, create a new Storage, and select the Huawei driver. Provide:
- Management endpoint (REST/API address)
- Credentials
- Array ID – Huawei arrays can contain multiple sub-arrays; specify which one MetalSoft should use.
2. Connect to the storage fabric
Section titled “2. Connect to the storage fabric”Associate the Huawei storage with the appropriate storage fabric and assign logical networks that carry storage traffic (with the relevant IP subnets).
3. Configure a logical network for storage access
Section titled “3. Configure a logical network for storage access”Create or reuse a logical network / network profile with a dedicated storage VLAN and IP pool. This network is shared by server interfaces, Drives, File Shares, and Buckets — their IPs are allocated from it.
4. (optional) Select interfaces for provisioning
Section titled “4. (optional) Select interfaces for provisioning”In Interfaces / Settings on the storage page, pick which Huawei port to use for iSCSI, NFS, and S3 traffic. MetalSoft creates virtual VLAN sub-interfaces (e.g. a0a.4000) on that port. If left unset, MetalSoft picks a port automatically.
Enable uplink provisioning if MetalSoft should configure switch VLANs automatically. Enable FC / data reduction / de-duplication if needed (FC uses dedicated ports).
5. Add elements to an infrastructure
Section titled “5. Add elements to an infrastructure”In the Infrastructure Designer:
- Drive: add a Drive → connect to the storage logical network → connect server to same network → connect Drive to server.
- File Share: same pattern as Drive.
- Bucket: add a Bucket → connect to the storage logical network. No server attachment needed — credentials appear in the Designer for use on the server side.
6. Deploy
Section titled “6. Deploy”Click Deploy. MetalSoft creates LUNs, NFS exports, or bucket endpoints and maps them over the storage fabric.
Verify in MetalSoft (Storage / Drives / File Shares / Buckets pages) and on the Huawei array that resources exist with the correct IPs and ports.
