Compatibility matrix

This document provides information about MetalSoft compatibility with various equipment from various vendors.

MetalSoft draws the following distinction between equipment types:

• supported equipment - equipment that MetalSoft expects to work with the software.
• validated equipment - equipment that MetalSoft has tested in its lab.

MetalSoft maintains distinct “drivers” for different vendors (and sometimes generations of hardware and software), which lets MetalSoft cope with the different implementations of similar features across vendors.

Note

Unless stated otherwise, MetalSoft supports all its features on the listed equipment.

Servers

MetalSoft supports a wide array of servers. MetalSoft has tested a range of equipment, but most other brands and server models should also be supported, at least partially.

MetalSoft performs all listed operations via the server’s OOB (management) interface.

Dell servers

MetalSoft supports both iDRAC 9 and iDRAC 8 servers for both Intel and AMD.

Notes

• MetalSoft requires an iDRAC Enterprise (or better) license.
• MetalSoft uses Virtual Media as the default deployment mechanism for all Dell servers, except 12G servers, which support only the PXE mechanism. The PXE mechanism is deprecated, and MetalSoft may remove it in a later version of the software.
• The minimum supported iDRAC 8 version is 2.75.75.75.
• The minimum supported iDRAC 9 version is 5.0.0.0.
• MetalSoft requires the Serial Com port option for NICs that do not support SwitchConnectionView.
• MetalSoft does not support the Dell S1x0 series RAID controller.

Notes

• MetalSoft requires an ILO Advanced (or better) license for all ILO versions.
• The minimum supported ILO version is 3.11.
• MetalSoft does not support HPE B1x0i controllers.
• For Gen 12, MetalSoft supports only the Intel VROC NVMe controllers.
• For Gen12, MetalSoft does not support the SR, MR, and NS204 controllers in versions prior to 7.0.4.
• MetalSoft does not support ILO5 with NVME drives directly connected to the backplane (MetalSoft does not see them as disks, but the OSs can still use them).

Pure Storage

MetalSoft should support all Pure Flash Array Storage systems using API version 2.36+. MetalSoft added support in version 7.1 and added file share management in version 7.2.

MetalSoft should support all Pure Flash Blade Storage systems using API version 2.0+. MetalSoft added support in version 7.5.

Caution

MetalSoft requires FlashArray API version 2.36 or later because Secure Multi-Tenancy relies on Purity Realms, which are available only from that version onward. MetalSoft does not support arrays running an older API version; you must upgrade them before using them with MetalSoft.
